From 25 October 2025 to 22 February 2026, the Civic Museum of Bassano del Grappa will host an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Segantini.

Giovanni Segantini

From 25 October 2025 to 22 February 2026, the Civic Museum of Bassano del Grappa will host an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899), one of the greatest exponents of Divisionism and a master in interpreting the natural world and the mountains as a symbolic place. This exhibition comes more than ten years after the last exhibition dedicated to the artist and offers a comprehensive overview of the most significant phases of his artistic and personal life.

The exhibition, organised with the support of the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz and the Galleria Civica G. Segantini in Arco, in collaboration with Dario Cimorelli Editore, brings Segantini's works into dialogue with those of other great European artists of the time, from Millet to Van Gogh, recounting Segantini's influence and importance in the European art scene of the 19th century.

Who was Giovanni Segantini?

Born in Arco to a humble family, Segantini trained in the workshop of decorator Luigi Tettamanzi and at the Brera Academy. His art stemmed from a deep connection with nature and an innovative study of light and colour, which led him to develop Divisionism to the point of transforming the representation of Alpine spaces into symbolic and pantheistic pictorial poetry. From his “scapigliati” beginnings to pastoral painting and his last lyrical works, the exhibition traces his entire artistic development through four thematic sections and more than a hundred works from the most important collections in Europe, including the Musée d'Orsay and the Rijksmuseum.

Collaboration with Audiogiro for an immersive experience

To make the visit even more engaging, the exhibition provides audio guides in collaboration with Audiogiro. Thanks to this system, visitors can discover details, curiosities and insights into Segantini's work and the historical and cultural context, enriching the exhibition with an engaging and intuitive narrative.

Why visit this exhibition?

The exhibition not only pays tribute to an extraordinary artist but also invites visitors to reflect on the profound relationship between man and nature, on light as a vehicle for emotions and on the symbolic value of the Alpine landscape. The scientific catalogue published by Dario Cimorelli Editore brings together authoritative contributions, offering a valuable resource for connoisseurs and enthusiasts.

This exhibition is a must-see not only for art lovers but for anyone who enjoys immersing themselves in the great themes of nature and artistic symbolism.
